To bring transparency in the real estate business, the Delhi government has completed the process of uploading details of prope rties registered after 2003 online.
A revenue department officer who completed the process in May said the exact number of properties cannot be estimated but said all documents in the registrar office had been digitised.
Details such as names and address of owners, sale deed, lease bond and other relevant papers related to the sale, resale and registry of the property are online.
Land records of Delhi’s rural properties are already online. One can log on to delhi.gov.in/ revenue, select the district and sub -registrar office concerned and then type details of the property. A scanned copy of the property registration or sale deed will show up.
The digitization of properties, officials said, had been going on for more than tw o years
Officials say this will not only bring hidden and benami properties out in the open but also stop fraudulent transactions. “Now, people can checkdetails on the revenue department website. Records till 2003 have been digitised and the process is onto digitise records before 2003,” said a revenue department official. Proper ties can also be searched through owner name.
Earlier, Delhi Police had written to the government for digitisation of all re gistered properties in the capital to check rising cases of fraud.
According to Delhi police sta tistics, the Ec onomic Offences Wing (EOW) is probing around 19 cases of multiple mortgage of property and 30 cases of fake sale deeds. The police are trying to push for a software to enable the owner to automatically receive an email or SMS alert whenever any transaction or deal is attempted on his property, knowingly or without his knowledge
